Interesting fact: The Blue Mountains is densely populated by oil bearing Eucalyptus trees. The atmosphere is filled with droplets of oil, which, in combination with dust particles and water vapour, produce short-wave length rays of light which are predominantly blue.
And they actually look blue! I have been there myself, I can assure they look blue! An oasis of peace guys, what a gem!
Strongly recommended: get a train from Sydney central to Katoomba station. At the station there you can buy a ticket for $77 which includes many different attractions such as an hop on hop off bus, cableway, railway, skyway. You can also decide to just walk in the park but if it’s the first time for you there, I’d suggest to pay for the whole package. The cableway consists of a huge cable that cuts across the entire valley and that looks pretty much like the picture below.
Scary isn’t it? Nah, Totally safe and totally worth it. Still, if you are afraid of heights avoid it. There is also a fun railway on a 52 degree incline riding that you can do. The funniest bit is probably the entertainment you get before getting on the railway. There’s a guy playing the drum improvising some singing. He also picks random people from the public and asks their country of origins and then he makes up some rhymes on the spot. I was obviously picked as one of the lucky guests, what a privilege! I just let you imagine the song he improvised when I said I’m from Italy. Yes… the song contained the words PIZZA, PASTA, BELLISSIMA AND CIAO…
